November 17, 2016 – The UK government’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has announced a recall of:

  • Armitage Pet Care Flea and Tick Drops for Dogs 702 mg spot-on solution (Vm 20205/4003)
  • Armitage Flea Drops for Cats and Kittens

armitage

An unknown quantity of the Armitage Pet Care Flea and Tick Drops for Dogs, manufactured and distributed by bio-Tech Solutions Ltd, containing permethrin have been distributed in packaging labelled Armitage Flea Drops for Cats and Kittens.

A VMD spokesperson confirmed to Pet News Today this morning that the Armitage Pet Care Flea and Tick Drops for Dogs 702 mg spot-on solution has also been recalled by the company.

Exposure to even small quantities of concentrated permethrin can cause severe and fatal poisoning in cats. See the article Pet News Today published in September about a cat who died after its owner accidentally gave it flea and tick drops containing permethrin for symptom information.

If you have one of the recalled products, do not use it on your cat or kitten or dog

If you believe you have given your pet one of these products, you should contact your vet immediately.

You can return the product to the place of purchase or contact John Tharratt at Bio-Tech Solutions Ltd: Tel 08704 450154 or email JTharratt@btsl.uk.com.

Pet News Today has found that these products are still available for purchase from some online retailers including ebay and Amazon.co.uk. We have advised the VMD who will be contacting these retailers.
